Description

Although screws have replaced nails for many applications, they are still cheap and fast.

They are available in zinc for indoor use and galvanized for outdoors.

The 3 shank types have specific applications:

Smooth shank is best used in hardwood frames, its smooth shank makes for easier nailing in old hardwoods that can be extremely hard, some are so hard that predrilling can be necessary. Ring shank is the standard for pine frames, the rings assisting it in holding in the softer wood.  Screw shanks have the greatest holding power but can be more difficult to hammer home cleanly.

These days most plaster is installed with screws but if you haven’t got a collated screw gun nails are a faster solution than loose screws.
