Victorian Ceiling Roses
The Victorian era was the high point of ceiling rose design and use. These intricately ornamented plaster works featured in the formal rooms of every Victorian gentleman's house. These days they are generally used throughout the whole home with some home owners even installing them in bath rooms and utility rooms.
At F. Vitale & Sons, we supply Victorian ceiling roses for Melbourne homes in a wide range of sizes and designs. Ceiling height is the main factor when deciding size to use. If your ceilings are 3.6 metres you will require at least a 1 metre diameter rose to look appropriate at that height. A 3 metre ceiling usually requires a rose from 700mm to 900 mm. Under 3 metres your choice is limited to the smaller roses.
Apart from this the choice is very much about personal taste. Detail fades rapidly as ceiling height increases so fine detail tends to disappear while bulky feature remain strong. A finely featured rose can look quite plain on the ceiling while a strongly featured one can still have great impact.
There are more Victorian roses in the Oval Roses section.
