Ornamental Cornice

Plaster Cornice
The line where the ceiling meets the walls of a room can be treated in diferent ways.
1. Square set - A plain right angle with no ornamentation.
2. Bulkhead - A box like structure at the join that can be used with or without cornice.
3. Cornice - A decorative plaster moulding at the junction of wall and ceiling.

Cornices come in many different shapes, sizes and designs. They range from period pieces, Georgian, Victorian, Federation etc, to modern shadowline designs.
The following pages are grouped by era and style. Please bear in mind that there are no hard and fast rules, most styles evolved from what was fasionsble at the time, and home owners and builders were not bound to accept the current fashion if they prefered something else.
Remember you have to live with it. Make sure you choose something that you will find pleasing in the years to come.
